The Snail Tales Mission Statement & Values
Snail Tales exists...
- to foster the arts of storytelling and story-making in people of all ages and backgrounds, in the firm belief that nurturing creativity can lead to an enhanced enjoyment of life and learning; and
- to encourage an enjoyment of sharing stories.
We believe that storytelling is...
...the art of making a free story* engaging and entertaining and, whereever possible, inspiring for live performance to an audience.
To achieve this end, a storyteller may draw upon any complementary artforms and skills practiced by the teller, such as:
- drama
- craft
- performance poetry
- song
- puppetry and ventriloquism
- mime
*a "free story" is any story out of copyright, historical or folklore in nature, or created by the teller
Our Core Values
- Snail Tales has a Christian ethos, grounded in the belief that creation was the first gift of God to man, and our creativity is an important aspect of being created in His image
- Stories should not encourage a way of life that is opposed to the greatest commandment, “Love thy neighbour”
- Storytelling is an art that can be enjoyed and practiced by all ages, backgrounds and religions, and is essential to an individual’s natural social development, cultural awareness, and enjoyment of life
- Storytelling is an art deeply steeped in tradition which has been passed down for countless millennia, and is therefore a skill which is expected to be shared, explored and developed
