Snail Tales' Health and Safety Policy
Snail Tales are committed to ensuring that they comply with all their customers’ health and safety requirements whilst delivering projects on their premises. In particular, Snail Tales will:
- provide adequate control of any or all health and safety risks arising from its work activities
- consult with its customers on all matters affecting their health and safety duties and responsibilities
- ensure its staff are competent to do their tasks in a safe manner by providing adequate information about the project and its delivery to the customer’s health and safety competent person, offering additional instruction or training where necessary
- do all in its power to prevent accidents and cases of work-related ill-health by regularly reviewing its activities
- regularly review and revise this policy as necessary
Responsibilities
Members of Snail Tales are required by the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions. In particular members of Snail Tales will:
- co-operate with customers on all health and safety matters
- not interfere with anything provided to safeguard the health and safety of Snail Tales members and project participants whilst on customers’ premises
- report all health and safety concerns immediately to the customers’ representatives
Specific Health and Safety Risks Arising From Work Activities
- Risk assessments where necessary will be undertaken by Chip Colquhoun
- The findings of the risk assessments will be recorded and made available as appropriate to customers
- Action required to remove/control risks will be approved by Amy Robinson or Chip Colquhoun as appropriate
- Responsibility for required action shall be implemented by either Amy or Chip as appropriate
- That implemented actions have removed/reduced risks will be checked by the customer’s competent person
Risk assessments will cover the following areas:
- Emergency evacuation
- Fire
- Manual handling
- Slips, trips and falls
- Any other identified risks associated with our business as and when required
Risk assessments will be reviewed annually or earlier if circumstances require, eg when work activity changes.
Snail Tales will provide all new employees with an induction period of training that will focus on job-specific health and safety training together with specialist training where appropriate.
Training will be identified, arranged and monitored on a regular basis and records will be maintained by the company of all training provided, with employees being required to sign documentation relating to health and safety training received.
Accidents, First Aid and Work-Related Ill Health
The proprietors of Snail Tales shall ensure that a first aid box is carried in vehicles used for the purposes of the business and that all accidents, no matter how minor, and cases of work-related ill health will be recorded in the business diary.
Snail Tales is responsible for reporting any accidents, diseases and dangerous occurrences to the enforcing authority as required under the RIDDOR regulations of 1995.
Monitoring
Snail Tales shall regularly monitor all working conditions in order to ensure these agreed safe working practices are being followed. Snail Tales shall also be responsible for investigating accidents, work-related causes of sickness and absences, and shall act upon any investigation findings to prevent a recurrence.
