Taxmen send stories to businesses!

When Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs sent their latest payroll software to 1.5 million employers, they were surprised to find a few hundred of them asking why they had been sent a recording of a German storyteller.

Businessmen were struggling to work out why the Government would be wanting them to listen to stories such as Two Tidy Children, The Flea Circus and Ghosts.

According to a HMRC spokeswoman, the taxmen had contracted the production of their CDs - which normally contain electronic tools such as databases, tax calculators and automatic form generators - to a small firm in High Wycombe, where the mix-up took place.

But we wonder whether the reality is that the taxmen wanted the small businesses to take heed to the morals of the stories. After all, in today's "flea circus" of a financial climate, stories such as Two Tidy Children may have something to teach us all...
